In response to the growing threat of emerging diseases and habitat destruction, a new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) will focus on the One Health Approach in biosphere reserves. Led by renowned French ecologist, Professor Serge Morand of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), the MOOC will explore the relationship between the health of the planet, animals, and people. It will present scientific concepts and methodologies available globally, sharing good practices and innovative solutions from biosphere reserves designated by UNESCO.
The MOOC aims to:
- provide tools and frameworks for visualizing solutions that restore ecosystems,
- make them more resilient, and
- create better forms of governance that protect territories against emerging risks.
Participants can register for free in English, French, or Spanish via the SDG Academy on edX. The course will be instructor-paced, facilitated by a teaching assistant, and include weekly Q&A sessions with Professor Serge Morand. All learners who complete the course will receive a free 'Certificate of Completion' issued by UNESCO.
The course, organized by UNESCO's Earth Network and supported by the Government of Italy in partnership with the SDG Academy, will take place over 10 weeks beginning on April 3rd, 2023.
