The Porto Declaration: The rise of the European Pillar of Social Rights



On the 7th of May 2021, the Portuguese Presidency opened the 2021 Porto Social Summit. Three and a half years passed since the Götborg Summit and following the presentation of the Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan in March by the European Commission, this event was to be the foundation of a Social European Union's concluding act.

Ana Paula Zacarias, Portugal’s Secretary of State for European Affairs, announced that the Summit would lead to the proposal of concrete policies. From words to action, did the Summit, with the Porto Declaration, deliver on such ambitions?
